8歲的科爾無法擺脫內心深處一個可怕的秘密，那就是藏在他體內的魔鬼。那些好像是來自地獄深處的魔鬼向他提出了許多問題，并帶給他許多超自然的能力，科爾對他們的造訪感到非常恐懼，對于自己擁有的超能力又感到非常困惑，他不敢把自己的痛苦告訴別人，最后只能求助于兒童心理學專家Malcolm Crowe博士(布魯斯威利飾)。Crowe博士竭力去調查關于科爾擁有的超自然能力的真相，并力圖幫助他擺脫，結果把自己也陷了進去，遇到了更多可怕而又無法解釋的事情。博士可以幫助小科爾度過難關嗎……
